what is Youtube?

YouTube is a site that allows its users to upload and share videos in a format digital . It was founded in February of 2005 by three pioneers ofPayPal , a famous site on the Internet to transfer management of funds.

The format YouTube uses Adobe Flash to deliver content. It is the most popular site type (over 50% market share in 2006  ) due to the ability to host any videos (except materials protected by copyright , although this material is found in abundance in the system). Hosts a wide variety offilms , video clips and homemade materials. The material found on YouTube can be made ​​available in blogs and personal sites through mechanisms ( APIs ) developed for the site.

Possibly interested in expanding the market for advertising videos through its AdSense and in consolidating itself as one of the greatest services ofthe Internet the world , was announced on 9 October 2006 the purchase of YouTube by Google for the sum of U.S. $ 1 , 65 billion in stock.  The result of this acquisition can unify the service with Google Video .

The revised U.S. Time (Edition November 13, 2006) chose the song the best invention of the year by, among other reasons, "creating a new way for millions of people to entertain, educate themselves and collide in a way never been seen "

In 2010 , the five-year anniversary of YouTube, it was reported that so far the site has not been profitable for their owners.

history

YouTube was founded by Chad Hurley , Steve Chen and Jawed Karim , who were employees of PayPal . Prior to PayPal, Hurley studied design at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Chen and Karim studied computer science together at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The domain "YouTube.com" was activated on February 15 of 2005 and the site was developed in the months following. The creators of the site offered a preview of the site to the public in May of 2005 , six months before its official release.

On October 9th of 2006 , it was announced that the company would be bought by Google for 1.65 billion U.S. dollars in shares . The deal between Google and YouTube came after YouTube presented three agreements with companies reporting in an attempt to avoid lawsuits over infringement of copyright . YouTube continued to operate independently, with its co-founders and 67 employees working within the company. The YouTube acquisition was closed on November 13 , and was at the time the second largest acquisition by Google.

Problem with domain name

The success of YouTube has affected the business of "Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment", whose URL 's original site, http://www.utube.com was so visited in an hour that is overloaded and went off the air because of the large number of visitors who were not sure how correct that is writing the url YouTube. In early November of 2006, Universal Tube filed a lawsuit in the court of the United States against YouTube,  claim that the YouTube.com domain was transferred to them,  without obtaining success. From June of2008 the url utube.com contains only a warning, while the "Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment" moved to utubeonline.com . According to the search engine domain WHOIS , Universal Tube still owns the domain "utube.com".

April Fool's day

For the fun of April Fools' Day 2008, all "videos posted" redirected the main page for the video of Rick Astley " Never Gonna Give You Up , "effectively rickrolling all trying to watch a video posted on the site.

In 2010, YouTube has created a fun alternative for those who expect the video to load. While the video you want to watch is loading, you can pause at the beginning of the video and press the left arrow key on the keyboard, and you're playing the "Game of the Snake".
